Advice from House of Lighting
The following are some general rules :
A Light Source - Creates a pool of light and secondary light when it is reflected by surfaces. This secondary effect cannot be reproduced or demonstrated in a shop environment so always consider what is above, below and alongside your light source
Light - remember dark rooms absorb light and therefore require more light, as do rooms with a large amount of glass, i.e. conservatories. You can add colour to a room by illuminating coloured surfaces
Avoid Glare - By placing the lights at such a height that you are not able to see the bulb directly, or if the light is directly over a glass or reflective surface ensure they are fitted with a diffuser
Multipurpose rooms - If a room has to perform a number of functions, installing one or more dimmer switches this will allow a greater level of light control for writing or reading and a lesser amount for relaxation.
Before buying a light of any type always consider the three following points.
- Make sure you are happy with the fitting you have bought - you have to live with it.
- Ensure it is capable of doing the job that you require of it.
- Always buy more lighting capacity than you need; it is far easier to reduce it than increase it.
